Sara Petrocelli-Armstrong is a classically-trained mezzo soprano currently on the roster of the Metropolitan Opera Chorus.  Sara holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the S.U.N.Y. Purchase Conservatory of Music, and Master of Music degree from Carnegie Mellon University as a student of Mildred Miller, with a minor in Italian Studies from University of Pittsburgh as a student of Dott.ssa Francesca Savoia.  She continued her training in opera as an apprentice for Sarasota Opera, Lake George Opera, New York’s Caramoor Festival and Tulsa Opera before joining the Metropolitan Opera in 2013.  She continued her Italian studies during an artist residency in Oderzo, Italy with Maestro Maurizio Arena, Claudia Pinza, Vivica Genaux and Enza Ferrari.  Sara specializes in Italian diction and poetic analysis, and currently teaches Latin, Italian, and English as a Second Language (ESL). Sara has a vast Italian and French song repertory and champions Fauré, Respighi and 20th century Italian composers.  Operatic roles include Carmen, Rosina, Cherubino, Beppe, Mozart’s Sesto, Suzuki, Dorabella, Nicklausse, Charlotte and Idamante.  She recently performed at the Met in the chorus of Wagner’s Parsifal, and at Carnegie Hall in Mahler’s Symphony No.6 with the Met chorus and orchestra under Maestro Nézét-Séguin.  Sara is a vocal student of David Jones, and has been teaching privately for over 20 years through Armstrong Vocal Studio alongside her husband, baritone Chad Armstrong.
